Recycling carbon dioxide into valuable products

At i-Foria, we believe that every waste stream holds hidden value. From the very beginning, our mission has been to transform any type of waste into useful resources.

We are excited to take this vision even further: we can now recycle carbon dioxide itself, turning an environmental challenge into an opportunity for sustainable production.

Through an exclusive license for advanced gas fermentation technology, we can convert CO₂—one of the world’s most abundant waste emissions—into high-value molecules, including alanine, fatty acids, fatty alcohols, and other specialty ingredients. This new capability adds a powerful dimension to our circular approach, allowing us to recycle carbon that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere.

The system is clean, efficient, and independent of agricultural land or intensive water use. It enables production almost anywhere and operates with a significantly lower environmental impact than traditional production processes, generating ingredients with negative carbon emissions.

HOW GAS FERMENTATION PROCESS WORK?

Gas fermentation is a natural biological process. Simply put:

  • Raw materials: Instead of using sugars or crops, the process uses carbon dioxide and hydrogen as raw materials.
  • Microbial catalysts: Special microorganisms—think of them as tiny biological factories—consume these gases as their “food.”
  • Conversion: As they grow and metabolize, the microorganisms transform CO₂ and hydrogen into useful products, such as proteins or other organic molecules.
  • Downstream processing: The final stage involves collecting and purifying these valuable materials so they can be used in food, materials, or specialty applications.
