Capannori, 03/25/25 – The recycling plant for absorbent personal products in Capannori will be built using the technology of i-Foria Italia, a leading company in innovative bioeconomy technologies, as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

This project marks a milestone in the journey towards a circular economy and sustainable waste management, aligning with Italy’s ecological transition goals and Europe’s ambition to lead the green industrial revolution.

The new facility in Capannori will enable the recycling of used diapers by separating key materials, such as plastics and absorbent components, and transforming them into high-value secondary raw materials that can be reused across various industries.

CO.PAR.M., a leading company in the construction and installation of waste management plants, will build this innovative facility, bringing us closer to a green, resilient, and sustainable industrial model.

The plant represents a significant step forward in reducing the volume of non-recyclable waste and increasing the national recycling rate. It is estimated that billions of disposable diapers are produced each year in Italy, generating around 900,000 tons of waste annually. Until now, this waste has mostly been sent to landfills or incinerators, posing a significant challenge for local governments and waste treatment companies.

With the adoption of this innovative plant, i-Foria will contribute to environmental sustainability and the ecological transition by ensuring these waste materials are recycled efficiently and responsibly. Furthermore, the recovery and reuse of materials within Europe will help reduce dependence on imported raw materials, strengthen the resilience of the European industrial sector, and promote a more sustainable and competitive “Made in Italy” circular economy model.

This circular economy approach will reduce the environmental impact of these everyday products, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future, in line with the objectives of the European Green Deal and the national strategy for the circular economy. The plant not only represents an opportunity for waste management but also for the creation of new qualified jobs in the field of sustainability and technological innovation, supporting the growth of a sustainable and innovative ecosystem.

The project, part of the PNRR program, is integrated into the broader sustainability and innovation plan pursued by i-Foria Italia, aimed at strengthening Italy’s leadership in the European circular economy and helping mitigate the continent’s vulnerability regarding raw material supply.

“We are extremely proud to contribute to such an ambitious and innovative project, which represents a key milestone in our commitment to a more sustainable future,” said Marcello Somma, CEO of i-Foria Italia. “The PNRR investment in recycling plants for absorbent personal products confirms Italy’s leadership in this sector: regulatory, with the world’s first end-of-waste decree; technological, with the ability to recover materials from this waste; and administrative, with over 18 million citizens already served by dedicated separate collection.”

Carmine Aliuzzi, Sole Director of CO.PAR.M., added: “CO.PAR.M. has always been committed to building and installing waste management plants and is proud to carry out this innovative project. With this initiative, we move even closer to a green, resilient, and sustainable industrial model, addressing environmental challenges and actively contributing to the ecological transition.”
