Increasing circularity in process industries through upcycling of secondary resources

i-Foria is participating to the ICARUS project General Assembly hosted by Keraben.

ICARUS aims to provide technological support to energy-intensive and construction industries in their transition towards more sustainable and digital processes, within a business model designed for successful market implementation.

i-Foria is involved in the validation of an innovative system for the recovery and upcycling of Secondary Raw Materials from Absorbent Hygiene Products (AHP), with a focus on cellulose application in the construction sector.
ICARUS will recycle waste material resources from most selected process industries to achieve circular and sustainable process industries, going beyond their final application in the construction sector. This project will accelerate the adoption by the process industry and contribute to the development of activities and outcomes in this field regarding education and skills, while also connecting the entire value chain of industrial stakeholders, recyclers, public authorities, and standardization bodies.

Technologies demonstrated through 3 Demo Cases:
  • Upcycling of lithium aluminosilicate residues
  • Upcycling of secondary raw materials from urban waste cellulose

  • Upcycling of steel slag through Carbon Capture and Storage

Application of the obtained secondary raw materials in the construction and steel industries

i-Foria will work on the second ICARUS demonstration case: Upcycling of industrial and urban cellulose waste.
