We are proud to announce a new chapter in i-Foria’s growth journey and in the development of breakthrough innovation in Abruzzo: the launch of the RePAP project, selected under a funding call promoted by the Abruzzo Region. This initiative strengthens the region’s role as a key reference point for the recycling of Personal Absorbent Products (PAP) and for the development of high-value, sustainable industrial value chains.
In a unique context such as the “Nappy Valley”, where industrial expertise, research, and entrepreneurial vision come together, RePAP aims to develop and scale up an advanced technology for the valorisation of cellulose derived from PAP.
The goal is both ambitious and concrete: to further increase the value of already recycled secondary raw materials by improving cellulose quality to levels comparable to virgin material, enabling its use in high-value applications.
The project also includes the development of a pilot plant, a crucial step to validate the process at industrial scale and unlock new opportunities for the value chain.
A team effort bringing together complementary expertise:
- ALMACIS – project leader, coordinating activities related to the pilot plant and studies on potential future applications
- i-Foria – leading the scale-up of cellulose upcycling technology, integrating separation and washing technologies into a single solution to maximise efficiency and performance
- ISCLEANAIR – contributing air emission reduction solutions, further enhancing the environmental sustainability of the process
- Texol – developing new applications for recycled cellulose, particularly in the Ho.Re.Ca. sector, and acting as end-user, effectively closing the loop of the value chain
Through RePAP, we aim to:
- increase the economic value of recycled cellulose
- strengthen high-value industrial value chains
- reduce Europe’s dependence on virgin cellulose
- consolidate Abruzzo’s role as a leading hub for the circular economy applied to PAP
From Abruzzo’s Nappy Valley, a project looking toward Europe.
