The Sowise+ research project (Solid Organic Waste Into Sustainable End-products), led by an Italian consortium, was launched in Treviso in recent days. The project aims to develop a biorefinery capable of recovering value from the organic fraction of municipal solid waste and post-consumer absorbent hygiene products, transforming them into biobased materials, including biopolymers — particularly PHBV — and cellulosic materials.
The Sowise+ project is coordinated by Contarina, a public company responsible for waste management and environmental services in several municipalities across the province of Treviso.
