i-Foria’s unique technology
i-Foria has developed a unique technology which is able to recycle waste from used absorbent products (AHP), obtaining secondary raw materials of the highest quality to be reused as secondary raw materials in new production cycles. i-Foria’s technology makes it possible to comply with the most stringent legal, safety and process performance requirements while allowing low energy consumption.
This is a technological innovation that makes recyclable a category of products traditionally considered non-recyclable, with proven environmental benefits.
The i-Foria technology involves the following phases:
- Collection of AHPs from the source or collection points;
- Transfer to the waste treatment centre, reception of AHP waste and storage within an air-controlled reception bay, before being conveyed to the central treatment unit;
- Sterilization: This is the middle step of the process, where the AHP waste is loaded into the autoclave, a heated horizontal cylindrical vessel. The sterilization process is the same as that used to validate the sterilization of medical and surgical devices;
- Drying: the sterilized material coming out of the autoclave is loaded into a drying system, where its moisture content is significantly reduced;
- Selection: the dried material is then mechanically treated, passing through a series of separators for the recovery of cellulose fiber with superabsorbent polymer, and plastic.
